1.1 What is AI?

🎯 Goal: explain AI in your own words
  • AI means Artificial Intelligence: computer programs that can do jobs that usually need human thinking.
  • It does not think like you. It learns patterns from millions of examples: words, pictures, sounds.
  • You already meet AI daily: video suggestions, voice assistants, map apps, photo filters.
  • Think of it as a student who read a huge library but has never lived a day of life.

🧩 How AI learns

📚Lots of examplesbooks, pictures, text
➜
⚙️Computer looks for patternsagain and again
➜
🧠It learns the ruleslike cat = whiskers + tail
➜
💬It helps youanswers, ideas, quizzes

🌍 Real-life examples

🎬 Video appsThey notice what you watch and suggest similar videos. That is pattern spotting.
🗺️ Map appsThey study traffic patterns to guess the fastest way to school.
🚀 Try it yourself
Explain what AI is to a 10-year-old using a cricket or football example. Keep it under 80 words.
❌ Weak prompt“What is AI?”
Too general. The answer may be long and confusing.
✅ Good prompt“Explain AI to a Class 6 student with a cricket example in 5 bullet points.”
Clear level, example and format.
🎉 Fun fact: The term “Artificial Intelligence” was first used in 1956, at a summer workshop in the USA.

1.2 Meet Claude

🎯 Goal: know who Claude is and what it is good for
  • Claude is an AI assistant made by a company called Anthropic.
  • You talk to it by typing (and sometimes by sharing files or images), just like chatting.

  • Your message to Claude is called a prompt.
  • Claude reads it in small pieces and uses patterns it learned to build a reply, one small piece at a time.
  • It is like auto-complete on your phone, but far smarter.
