6.1 Web search

🎯 Goal: get fresh information with sources
  • Claude’s own knowledge has a cut-off date, so it may not know recent things.
  • With web search, Claude can look things up and show where the information came from.
  • Check the sources yourself: are they reliable and current?
  • Use search for news, prices and recent facts. Stable facts like how a plant grows rarely need it.

🌐 When to search

🔎 SearchToday’s weather, a recent match result, a new rule or price.
💬 No needWhat photosynthesis is, history facts, how to solve a maths problem.

🌍 Real-life examples

📰 Recent“Search for the latest on [topic] and list your sources.”
🔗 CheckOpen two sources and compare.
🚀 Try it yourself
Search the web for recent, reliable information about [topic]. Give me 5 short points for a Class 8 student, name each source, and tell me which facts I should double-check.
❌ WeakBelieving the first result.
May be wrong or old.
✅ GoodComparing two reliable sources.
Safer.
🎉 Fun fact: News changes daily. Web search is how an AI can catch up!

📝 Quick quiz

1. Why search the web?

2. Do you still check sources?
A) Yes   B) No

✅ A. Always.

3. A fact that rarely changes needs search?

🔭

6.2 Deep research

🎯 Goal: know when to ask for a longer investigation
  • For big questions, Claude can do a research task: many searches, reading, then a report with sources.
  • It takes longer than a normal answer.
  • Give a clear question, level and what to include.
  • Read the report critically and open the cited sources.
