Multi-step Tasks: Claude as a Helper

Claude can plan a bigger job, work through the steps, use files you allow and show you a checklist. You stay the boss.

🔁 Remember: 🗂️ Projects 🖼️ Artifacts 🧠 Skills Now: 🧑‍💼 bigger jobs.
👨‍👩‍👧
Reminder: Helper tools that touch files should only be set up by or with a parent or teacher. Share only a small folder of school notes. Features and names change, so check Claude’s help pages.

4.1 From chat to teamwork

🎯 Goal: understand multi-step helper mode
  • Normally you chat and Claude answers. For bigger jobs, Claude can plan and work through many steps.
  • It can read files you allow, create new ones and show a task list of what it is doing.
  • You may see this called Cowork in some places. Its abilities are now part of Claude.
  • Names and features change, so a grown-up can check Claude’s help pages.

💬 Chat vs 🧑‍💼 helper mode

💬 Chat
You ask, Claude answers once
🧑‍💼 Helper mode
Claude plans, works, then hands back a result
🎯 Good for
Organising notes, making a study pack, summarising many files

🌍 Real-life examples

📚 Study pack“Turn my typed notes into a one-page summary and 10 flashcards.”
🗂️ Tidy up“Sort these practice sheets into subject folders.”
🚀 Try it yourself
I have a folder of typed notes for Class 8 Science. Plan how you would turn them into a revision pack (summary, flashcards, practice questions). Show me the plan and ask permission before you create anything.
❌ Weak“Do my homework folder.”
No clear plan or limits.
✅ Good“Plan it first, then ask me before making files.”
You stay in control.
🎉 Fun fact: Working in steps and checking each one is how people finish big projects, and how Claude does it too!

4.2 Plan, task list, result

🎯 Goal: read and guide a task list

  • Ask for the plan first and approve it.
  • Follow the task list: pending, in progress, done.
  • At the end, check the result yourself.
